An internationally renowned author, lecturer and researcher in the field of diabetic wound healing, Professor Armstrong was elected last year to the national board of directors of the American Diabetes Association. A 1993 graduate of the California College of Podiatric Medicine, he completed a two year residency in foot and ankle surgery at Monsignor Clement Kern Hospital for Special Surgery in Warren, Michigan, followed by a diabetic foot fellowship at the University of Texas Health Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Currently, Professor Armstrong serves on the faculty of the University of Arizona's Center for the Study of Vascular Disease in Hispanics and Native Americans, and serves at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Tucson as director of research and education in the department of podiatric surgery. He is also a visiting senior lecturer for the Manchester Royal Infirmary.
Professor Armstrong has published more than 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters in numerous medical publications, and also serves as a consultant for pharmaceutical companies, lecturing frequently on diabetic-related foot topics.
